Laughter: The BEST Medicine For Body & Soul

We´ve all heard it before: Laughter is the best medicine. Dating back to biblical times, this old proverb is equally true today…

Why do you think that is?

I did a bit of digging and this is what I found about the effects laughter has on our mind, body and soul:

Laughter & Your Body

When we laugh, endorphins are released throughout our body, stimulating muscles, nerves, organs and tissues. Studies show these endorphins have the power to relieve chronic pain and stress and enhance the way our immune system functions.

Laughter literally helps heal your body.

Laughter & Your Mind

When you hang out with friends, enjoying good conversation accented with smiles and laughter, your mind produces happy thoughts. And those happy thoughts lead to you seeing yourself, others and the world around you in a positive light.

On the other hand, if you spend all your time around people who never smile and are always looking for something to complain about, your outlook on life will tend to be more negative overall.

Laughter & Your Soul

Laughing strengthens your inner being both emotionally and physically. Laughing, or even just smiling, affirms your soul in a positive way. And, in so doing, leads to us having a more positive outlook on life. As a result, our bodies produce more self-healing endorphins, which, in turn keeps them running well and helps us stay healthy.

Laughter Lifts Your Spirits

Laughter causes our spirits to rise, helping us feel uplifted, happy and even carefree. And it doesn´t just help us on an individual level. It also has a contagious quality about it that leads those around us to feel less stressed and anxious.

Don't you just love hearing a baby or toddler laugh? How does that make you feel? More often than not, it can be not to start laughing right along with them! Laughter begins to develop in humans as early as 3 months of age and a baby's laughter is one of the most contagious of all human sounds.

Laughter & Your Relationships

When two people share a funny story or experience a silly situation together, a unique kind of bonding takes place. Something special is formed between them that only they can relate with; an inside joke that is special to those who've shared in that particular moment.

When two people spend a lot of time laughing together, a stronger, more everlasting bond develops.

In a marriage, studies show couples that laugh together stay together much longer - if not for life. Think about a truly happy couple you know. Sure, every family has their issues and marriage takes work, but chances are they spend a lot of time laughing together. This doesn't happen by accident either. It can be created and nurtured!

Choosing to embrace laughter, makes getting through life´s rough spots that much easier. It also goes a long way to making you happier and healthier.

Life can be hard, so why not choose to make it more joyful when and where ever you can? The choice is always yours.

Look for the joy in every situation; make laughter a part of each and every day. Spend your time with positive people who love life and love to laugh.

Do these things and you will be surprised at just how much joy your life can hold! Laughter is the key.
