5 Ways To Stop Feeling Stuck

Whether I´m talking with friends or clients I hear this sentiment a lot:

I feel like I´m in a rut.

There´s got to be more to life than this.

I hate feeling stuck; like I´m spinning my wheels all the time, going nowhere!

So many people feel like they are just drifting through life with no purpose or plan in sight. They feel lonely, depressed and hopeless – thinking if they could just find the answer they could turn their life around and be so much motivated, happier and fulfilled.

You´ve spent the past years being a great wife and mother, you´ve worked hard at getting where you are in your career, you´ve given everything you could give and now you´re wondering what´s next? Where do you go from here?

It can be really challenging to stop letting the life you´ve lived up to now define you. To look beyond what you know and be willing to take that first step outside of your comfort zone.

But, if you´re feeling stuck, that´s exactly what you must do.

To find the excitement that´s missing in your life, you need to do things differently than you have been doing them up until now.

Here are 5 ways you can stop feeling stuck and start feeling focused and fulfilled!

This step is probably one of the hardest. Most of us have been conditioned to believe we should always put the needs of others first.

As children we dream, as adults we believe it´s selfish to follow our dreams.

We grow up watching our mothers and fathers living a dull, uninspiring life and think that´s how it has to be for us as well.

How sad…and how wrong, that way of thinking is!

You don´t need anyone else´s permission to live a life of passion and purpose. You deserve to live your dreams.

You´ve worked hard all your life. You set your dreams aside so you could give to those around you…

Now it´s time to give yourself permission to live the life you´ve always dreamed of living!

Envision Your Future

Take a moment and really think about your answers to these questions:

  • What is my greatest vision? What do I want most in in my life? Do I want a new career? Do I want to be happier and more fulfilled? What can I do to make a difference in the world around me?

Forget about your inner critic and any boundaries it may try to set here…listen to your heart.

  • What will my life look like one year from now if I do not change?
  • What wonderful things can I expect to happen if I begin taking small steps towards my vision today?

Now sit down and write out your vision in full color and vivid detail. Really capture the images you say in your mind´s eye.

Develop A Plan

The next step is to develop a plan and begin taking action – even baby steps will do.

At the top of the page, write out you ultimate goal. Where is it you want to go? Then break that goal down into a series of smaller milestones you´ll need to meet to get you there.

Which of those milestones will move you forward the fastest? Begin with that. Decide on the first 3 steps you can take towards that milestone and take the first one today!

Remember, tiny steps are fine…as you build momentum, your confidence and motivation will grow! You don´t need to do it all at once, but you do need to start.

Surround Yourself With Positive People

The more you surround yourself with positive people and positive energy the easier it will be for you to change and grow.

Though it can be hard to break free of those who are happy with things just the way they are, you will never be able to move forward when you let the naysayers in your life hold you back. Find a group of friends, a life coach or a professional organization – better yet, give all three a try! – who will pump you up, keep your motivated, support you on your journey and help you reach your goals.How To Stop Feeling Stuck

Celebrate Your Successes

Every time you reach a milestone, take time to celebrate with your friends, your coach and anyone else cheering you on towards your goal.

After all, even a small step forward is a step in the right direction. Pat yourself on the back. Be proud of what you´re doing. Be proud of finally getting out of that rut!

And, most of all enjoy the road ahead. There´s a whole wide world out there, waiting just for you!
